The Lych Gate, as seen in the picture above, is the main gateway to our church on Windsor Road.  Forming a sort of porch, the lych gate was originally where the priest would wait to meet the funeral procession ('lych gate" meaning 'corpse way' in Anglo-Saxon) at the entrance to hallowed (holy) ground. As a place to keep dry, the gates became places to meet for a chat.

The Lych Gate then is a place where the church meets the world and where people meet to pass the time, share news, catch up and get to know one another.  Now these are all functions of our magazine and website.

Our actual Lych Gate - the wood and stone one - was given to us by St James' Church on Gore and Cordova when they rebuilt their church in the 1920's. We have maintained a link with St James' ever since and greatly value our partnership with the Downtown East Side ministry.
